Michael Moore has won an Academy Award
for his film "Bowling for Columbine."
"Bowling..." was characterized as Best Documentary by many critics. By playing many months and continuing to gross well in theatres, its success will act as a trailblazer that proves independent documentary can have an audience. Even before this latest award, Michael's website was getting several million hits a day and has a lot of interesting things on it that make it an entertaining civic lesson, just like the film. HOME MOVIE DAY, AUGUST 16, 2003
From Boston, Liz Coffey wrote about her part in the upcoming intentional event called "HOME MOVIE DAY" to be held on 8/16/2003:
Liz wrote" Hello all, Save the date, 8/16/03. I will be hosting Home Movie Day in Boston with my friend Andrea.
Basically, it will be a screening open to the public of home movies, on 16mm and 8/super 8. We will probably have several viewing stations set up, so we can show/watch several films at once. We hope to have some performances, and have people talk about their movies as they are shown. We are going to make some snacks.
I am soliciting films, so if you or anyone you know has some home movies to show, let me know. They can be movies they made, star in, or found. We want to show just traditional home movies (not commercially produced or art films), which means birthdays, trips, holidays, parades, xmas, etc. Sound, silent, 16mm and super/8mm are welcome. I'm working on a press release and flier and so forth. I hope it can be an all-ages event. It will probably be at the Berwick Research Institute in Dudley Square, Boston." USE OLD B&W Reversal Film NOW: chemistry change

While at the AMIA conference in Portland Oregon, Kodak's Marian Herz said to tell all the filmmakers we know to use their current Black and White reversal motion picture film soon. Kodak will be changing the bleach in the processing of this film and the new environmentally friendly bleach will not work with the old stocks.
