Spring 2006,SELF PRESERVATION GUIDE
In Spring 2006, Anthology Film Archives honored Bill Brand for 30 years of work as an experimental filmmaker and outstanding film technician. He had a series of screenings and a book describing it. For the book, Bill Brand asked Toni Treadway, editor of this website, to collaborate on a paper to help independent film makers begin their own archiving process. A Self Preservation Guide for Film/Video Makers gives a step by step outline of things to do and think about to insure the longevity of your work.

"Bowling..." was characterized as Best Documentary by many critics. By playing many months and continuing to gross well in theatres, its success will act as a trailblazer that proves independent documentary can have an audience. Even before this latest award, Michael's website was getting several million hits a day and has a lot of interesting things on it that make it an entertaining civic lesson, just like the film. Why do we mention it here, it has 8mm films in it! See www.michaelmoore.com

This is a major breakthrough for people who love this film, both in price and in ease of getting it to the lab. Thank you whoever made this happen inside the Motion Picture Division at Kodak.
While at the AMIA conference in Portland Oregon, Kodak's Marian Herz said to tell all the filmmakers we know to use their current Black and White reversal motion picture film soon. Kodak will be changing the bleach in the processing of this film and the new environmentally friendly bleach will not work with the old stocks.
